Our Halloween Night

Andrew cried when he saw this.  The squirrels-those crazy squirrels...and this is after just ONE day.  But don't the two pumpkins look like they had a crazy, bloody fight?  I had to laugh.

Our dinner tradition.  The excitement level before 6 pm-trick or treat time-is at an all time high and just trying to get them to sit and eat is a losing battle.

I'm missing Matthew, darn!  He left for a friend's house already.  I will make him stand outside today, just so I have one for his scrapbook.  I have to get our front door traditional Halloween pictures. (Isaac was our hander-outer, boo hoo.)

My two cute tails.

It was a beautiful PERFECT Halloween night.  Chilly but clear and crisp.  I loved every minute of it.  Daylight quickly turned to...

Spookiness.

The two hours flew.

Oh boy.

  2. Me too! That was my first item of business this morning--put away Halloween. I even transferred my kids candy to plastic bags so I could pack their trick-or-treat containers. (And maybe I threw away a little candy in the process, but I'll never tell.)

  3. Okay you're amazing. Getting all your decor down so fast. So glad you had such a lovely night. And I mourn with you over the pumpkin-eating squirrels. What is their deal?? We've lost many a pumpkin to those little teeth. xo

  4. I LOVE that spooky picture. And I thought your kids did that to the pumpkins to make them look more scary :)

  5. HA! Too funny Sarah! I am the EXACT same way. Love putting it up, but once it's over I'm so done and over it! I took all of my stuff down and cleaned like a maniac today too. But I will admit it took me a while to get moving. I had a major Halloween hangover. Your kids looked adorable. Love the bar fight pumpkins too! :)

  6. Love these photos Sarah...yes the yearly front door Hallowen pics, gotta have them!:)
Oh those pumpkins...too funny...but rather scary looking I must say. You have some crazy squirrels in your neighborhood. But i guess that's ok, if you have policemen on bikes who pass out candy!!:)
Love the "tails" shot and the surveying the candy ones too.
And I am just like you ...love to decorate for holidays, but i just can't get the stuff down fast enough!!:) I am having a cleaning day just like that today...can't wait!
    have a happy day sarah

  8. Halloween took on a different meaning for me this year, you see, I lost my home to hurricane Irene.

I went to bed with such a smile on my face. I didn't get the pefect picture like I wanted, I hardly had a single knock on my door with trick or treaters and poor Shane's didn't have his best friend to go trick or treating with (he got sent home sick from school). It seemed like it was going all down hill.

But then I did realize I had, a 2 year old who's meaning of halloween is a lollipop. I had a 4 year old who loved his costume so much he wanted to wear it to bed. A 9 year old who really knew the meaning of being a true friend, (he came home and split his candy 50/50 with his sick best friend). And finally a daughter who just wanted to be with her friends, but be with them at my house. None of them cared that I had no furniture, broken walls or not even enough room around our table for all of them to sit. They all ate pizza, talked boys and school and made childhood memories.

In that instant I realized how much I loved those kids, I mean really loved!

Life is not a tv movie, you can't write the script, it is what you make it.

I will look back on these Halloween 2011 photo's years for years to come and remember, the 2 year old running around getting dirty, the 4 year old who set the theme of everyone's costume (with the exception of his his sister who refused to be Princess Peach!) with his love and obsession of Mario! The 9 year old who got stuck hanging with his sister and her friends, and a beautiful 12 year old who is growing up so fast right before our eyes.

I am supposed to be teaching my children about life, and yet they seem to teach me!

And that is why I went to bed with a smile on my face on this Halloween night. Life is good!

  11. Looks like a great Halloween night! We kept our jack-o-lantern inside through Halloween so the squirrels wouldn't eat it... Now it's in the backyard FOR them!

I'm giving away a free one-year subscription to Disney Family Fun magazine on my blog to celebrate my girls' picture in the magazine! Stop by and enter!

  16. The pumpkin picture was so funny, before I read the caption I thought you guys did that on purpose! Have you ever seen that picture that circulates through email, on the internet, Facebook, etc... of the pumpkin that someone created to look like it threw up? It's gross, but funny in that immature sense. You just gotta laugh! Your kids look great in all their costumes!

  19. So fun! Love that your town still has night time trick or treating...we had it on Sunday from 1 to 3...snooze...just not as magical with the lit jack o lanterns, etc. I love the picture of Patrick pulling on his costume, cracks me up!

  20. Awww... My niece had the same dinosaur costume as Patrick! Love it!

  21. You sound just like me in your incessant need to clean and declutter! But, you shouldn't look at my house right now. I have a newly-4-year-old, a 2 year old and a 2 month old. Cleaning and organizing have been put on hold (though I am dying for the day that I can spend more than 1 minute cleaning without being summoned!).
I came to your blog through a friend's link to your laundry organization page, which I also love and am hoping to implement (4 year old and 2 year old already hang up all their own clothes).

Love your blog and am adding it to my feed!

  22. I can't believe the squirrels nibble at your pumpkins! In 40 years we have never had that happen...maybe because we clean out the pulp and seeds from ours before carving....or maybe the squirrels in WI, ND, and MN don't eat pumpkins. :)

  23. LOL Too funny about the pumpkins!! I can see how the little guy would be so upset! Lovely Halloween!
