Nancy Plays Nurse was just about my favorite book ever. Can you tell? It's all taped up and falling apart.
I LOVE Home For A Bunny. I also own the newer Golden Book edition and Patrick and I read it often.
And my all time favorite-"Spring, spring, spring!"
Another very worn copy. I think it was an Easter present from the Easter bunny when I was very young.
Hamilton Duck's Springtime Story.
I'm so glad my mom saved these for me, so my children could enjoy them also.
I love old children's books, too! I just found a copy of Just Only John online for my little guy, John. I'm so excited for him to have the story and love that it is a used book. I feel like the artwork in the old books is just so much more appropriate and beautiful for kids. Not bright in your face colors. Thanks for sharing :).
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are so cute! What darling books!
ReplyDeleteI love the Eloise Wilkin Little Golden Books--We Help Mommy and Baby Dear are two of my favorites!
ReplyDeleteTwo of my favorite Little Golden Books are Nurse Nancy and Doctor Dan. I had my mother's worn out copies to thumb through when I was a child and I adored them. When I had my own children I searched high and low for these two books and couldn't find them. However, a few years ago I received a package in the mail. I opened it to find both of these books! My mother had also been on the hunt and she found them for me. I was so touched and it was one of the best gifts I have ever received. I read both of them on a weekly basis to my children and I plan to tuck them away and keep them for my grandchildren some day.
ReplyDeleteHave you read "little mommy". My daughter and I love that book!
ReplyDeleteI have two very similar looking books, in same "loved" state. Ready to me by my Grandfather who died when I was 5. If I ran out of my burning house, I'd grab my babies and those two books.
ReplyDelete"my" copies of Gyo Fujikawa's Babies and Baby Animals have also been taped together dozens of times. I went a little nuts when I found one of them at the library and insisted on reading it to my 10 and 7 yr olds! :)
ReplyDeleteHome For a Bunny was a childhood favorite of mine as well. I can't help but tearing up at the end now, every time I read it to the kids.
ReplyDeleteI love your list! Wynn and I love the old little golden books too- his favorites are dr Dan the bandage man and the little red caboose. My favorite growing up was Squack to the Moon Little Goose. Did you read that??
ReplyDeleteP.s. love all the spring selections. I picked my first daffodil out of my yard yesterday-picking daffodils in early February is pure magic when you spent the first 30 years of your life up north. I love NC!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school I was a candy striper and had the same uniform! I love those old books and look for them often. You always have a good selection of older children's books. Your kids are so lucky to have you for a mom!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE old children's books. A few commenters mentioned a few of my favorites, Eloise WIlkin golden books, and Babies by Gyo Fujikawasa. I think I have that one memorized and my babies LOVED it. I am now collecting books for my grandchildren and love reliving old favorites.
ReplyDelete{in fact my last post was on books for big people}
I love old children's books too! I went to visit my mom and she had laminated a falling apart book and then had it sprial bound. It was so fun to look at that book again.
ReplyDeleteLooking at your book list for the year, My Antonia...favorite of favorites!
ReplyDeleteI use to love Nancy Plays Nurse. But thinking back I don't remember if I had, or if it was a copy at my Grandma's house. I wonder where it went to.
ReplyDeleteOh My!! Thank you for posting about 'Nancy Plays Nurse'!! That was the book my sisters and I would check out at church any time it was there! It brings back so many memories! Thanks a bunch for helping me remember such a sweet time in my life.
